Role Overview


Hermes UK has invested in a significant IT programme of change to support a wider Business Transformation Programme.  Hermes requires a practical engineer and technologist to support and empower the engineering teams with pipeline automation of infrastructure and application.  The role will require you to work closely with the Engineering teams providing support, guidance and governance.



  • Actively collaborate with the agile product development teams providing and supporting the tools and infrastructure.
  • This role requires a solid background managing enterprise-level infrastructure environments as well as configuration management and scripting.
  • Work with the other DevOps engineers to provide the technical leadership necessary to drive DevOps adoption to make engineering more efficient and effective including software configuration management practices. 
  • Input to the Enterprise Technology Standards, Policies and Frameworks and contributing to the Enterprise Technology Catalogue to ensure delivery teams are working consistently towards the target state. 
  • Highlight deviations from technology standards to the TDA (Technical Design Authority).
  • Providing thought leadership for technologies, techniques and tools to ensure Hermes can leverage the maximum benefits through automated pipeline such as testing, build and deployment. 
  • Work in partnership with the Security Architect to ensure Hermes is ready for the new legislation introduced by the European GDPA regulations.


  • Proven experience building and maintaining production systems on AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, ELB, Lambda, Elastic Beanstalk) using Cloudformation.
  • Experience working in a DevOps/Agile environment and strong scripting skills (Powershell, BASH, Python).
  • Experience with application containerisation platforms and registry e.g. Docker & ECR.
  • Ensure development environments are rapidly available and repeatable to support development efforts.  Experience with CI/CD tools e.g. Concourse, Jenkins.
  • Strong practical Linux and Windows based systems administration skills on a cloud platform. 
  • Knowledge of logging solutions such as Cloudwatch, ELK and Splunk. 
  • Experience with Application Performance Monitoring tools e.g. AppDynamics, NewRelic.
  • Demonstrated experience with source control management e.g. GIT.
  • Network skills beneficial to support Security Group management, VPN and Direct Connect configuration.
