Role Overview


To enable business benefit through the delivery of IT Programmes and projects to timescale, quality and budget. To successfully deliver the most complex IT Programmes/Projects whilst maintaining a thorough business understanding of the strategic impact of this type of change. The Project Manager will proactively contribute to improving the effectiveness of the IT department and promotion of good practice throughout the department.



  • Proven track record of leading the successful delivery of large and complex change projects or programmes, demonstrating an ability to apply programme and project management skills.
  • Structuring, planning and sequencing the programme delivery in line with defined business transition states.
  • Orchestrating the delivering of the programme in order to deliver the required business outcomes.
  • Playing a fundamental role in working with the business to shape and challenge the business case, to drive through the right approach to transition planning and benefits realisation.
  • Working with the Architecture team to ensure that the approach follows the Digital Transformation roadmap.
  • Work closely with the Business Change management team in the control and governance of delivery.
  • Responsible for mentoring, coaching key team members, with the capability to motivate high performing teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder relationship skills including the ability to engage and influence those at the most senior level, including Board members.


  • Initiate, develop and effectively execute plans for change across multiple teams.
  • Take initiative to solve underlying system issues that cause business impact or poorly performing product/Project teams.
  • Provide clarity and guidance and establishes priorities at the cross-product level, especially in times of conflict or when there is lack of clarity.
  • Leads by example. Sets high standards & communicates expectation of high achievement to others.  

Financial Management

  • Maintaining close working relationship with both the business area and finance managers, to understand at all times the financial position on all projects within the portfolio/programme.
  • Provide simple reporting of complex financials on portfolio/programme/project.


  • Experience of working in Project Delivery or similar role
  • A track record of successful Programme/Project delivery delivering significant business benefit
  • Previous management experience in particular negotiation skills, highly developed communication skills dealing with a wide range of people and the ability to prioritise heavy workloads
  • A self-starter who can build relationships quickly across the business. You will have a proven track record of delivering projects within a cross-functional team-working environment. You will be required to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure with minimal supervision
  • Experience of managing and motivating a team and working in a fast paced environment
  • Familiarity with a range of project management methodologies and the ability to adapt your approach
  • Experience of Lean, Agile and the role of Scrum Master
  • Experience working with a globally distributed organization is strongly preferred
  • Experienced in delivery of IT Applications and infrastructure change
  • An experienced manager with strong skills in coaching and developing individuals
  • Experience of Distribution/Logistics systems would be advantageous
  • Some or all of these qualifications will be useful in delivering the role within the organisation:
  • MSP, APM, Prince2
  • Scrum Master/Coach, Agile
  • IT/Business based Degree
