Role overview:

 

As a subject matter expert, you will be responsible for the effective management of Hermes’ Employee Relations activity across the UK. You will work alongside the HR Business Partners, Operations and/or other Centres of Excellence to address any underlying issues and support in managing organisational development with Operations. You will also support the wider HR team to achieve Hermes' HR Strategy objectives.

 

This will be to cover our Midlands area.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands on case management support in investigations, disciplinary, absence, capability and grievance matters and coach people managers on the process
  • Provide expert advice, guidance and coaching for people managers, in terms of interpretation of HR policy, procedures, legislation, consistency and best practice
  • Attend formal hearings as an advisor to management, where required (always present at potential dismissal/grievance meetings) 
  • Facilitate and attend where appropriate, alternative people sessions which may include Welfare visits, Mediation meetings and PIP reviews amongst others
  • Support the Corporate HR Business Partner to develop and maintain a suite of policies (and supporting documents) which are fit for purpose and in line with legislative requirements and best practice
  • Support the ER Manager with all potential litigious cases/settlement agreements and Tribunal claims, liaising with third parties including ACAS and legal partners on occasion and ensuring costs are controlled
  • Support the HR Business Partner’s with the management of organizational changes resulting in complex activities, including TUPE transfers, contract/hours changes, restructures and redundancy exercises
  • Use agreed KPIs to support the HR Business Partners and department managers to identify trends and solutions in terms of reducing attrition/sickness absence and overall avoidable cost
  • Work alongside the HR Business Partners and Learning & Development to support the development of the management capability in best practice, people leadership
  • Make suggestions and improvements to the current ER processes
  • Ensure a continuation of a harmonious Industrial Relations climate by keeping the Union involved wherever needed
  • Build and maintain strong working partnerships across HR, the business and with key stakeholders, such as USDAW

 

Qualifications

  • Proven experience of coaching and supporting managers through complex employee relations issues
  • Robust employment law and best practice knowledge
  • Identifies and deals with issues proactively and persistently, acting promptly in a crisis situation
  • Strong organisation skills, able to prioritise and multi-task in a fast pace, changing environment
  • Able to work independently, whilst asking for support and accepting when needed
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Great attention to detail with a methodical approach
