Role Overview

You will be responsible for working alongside product managers and business change project teams to clearly understand the technology requirements, and translate them into IT Solution Designs that support the people and processes within the organisation.

The Senior Systems Analyst will have solid experience working within both an Agile and Waterfall project delivery methodology. Using the appropriate techniques and tools you will conduct in depth analysis to identify the wider IS systems impact of a change, working with Solution Architects to produce technical solutions for large and/or complex business systems.

Responsibilities

  • A key responsibility is to work with project stakeholders to translate their requirements into features that the development team can build as well as to act as the bridge between the developers and the stakeholders or Product Manager. This is an iterative process throughout the project.
  • Identification of all appropriate analysis activities on a project, including those that may be undertaken by others.
  • You will build strong relationships with project managers, business analysts and development teams (both in-house and offshore) and key stakeholders across the business, and third party companies to ensure the successful delivery of a project.
  • Collaborate with development and test engineers to efficiently define IT solutions that support business processes and working practices.
  • Able to understand and explain technical/architectural concepts to project stakeholders, including explanations of the basis of delivery schedules and estimates.
  • Work with project stakeholders to identify, model, and then document the detailed technical solution producing diagrams and business domain details.
  • Elaborate the outline Non-Functional Requirements into the detail required for the right IT infrastructure.
  • Build connections across the business departments so that they are in a position to communicate effectively and appropriately at all levels, to facilitate project team’s resolution of issues or risks. They will also balance technology and business issues, communicating appropriately.
  • Provide information to support prioritisation, e.g. backlog refinement and release planning.
  • Work with project stakeholders to test the solution and validate the solution delivers their requirements via techniques such as reviews, walkthroughs, and sprint demos.
  • To work with IT services to ensure a successful transition to BAU Service Delivery, being proactive in the avoidance of problems and ensuring effective problem management when problems occur during early life support.
  • To support IT strategy and architecture by ensuring detailed IT solutions fit within the architectural framework provided by the Solution Architect.
  • Works with the Solution Architect to obtain design authority approval for all finalised solution designs.
  • Support the user experience development through user research, persona development, storyboards and wireframe, prototyping, show and tells
  • Involvement in the identification and selection of solution suppliers.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Previous systems analysis experience, in a respected organisation (experience within the logistics sector would be advantageous but is not essential).
  • Educated to degree level or possessing relevant professional experience.
  • Worked as an analyst on several projects of varying size and complexity throughout the full project delivery lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with a variety of analysis tools and techniques, such as data modelling, structured analysis & design, use cases, Object Oriented analysis & design.
  • Experience with analysis in an Agile/Scrum/Kanban team and able to describe requirements in terms of Themes, Epics, User Stories and acceptance criteria.
  • The successful IT Systems Analyst will have solid experience working within both an Agile and Waterfall project delivery methodology and will have worked closely with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Developers, Testers, Product Managers and business stakeholders.
  • Experience of dealing with third party suppliers, and stakeholder engagement at all levels.
  • Experience of dealing with off-shore / third party development teams to enable the delivery of projects.
  • Possesses an extensive knowledge of technology and business operations from across more than one business sector.
  • Be able to understand and explain technical/architectural concepts to business stakeholders
  • Experience of web based development, online environments and digital services. Experience of mobile development an advantage.
  • Solid understanding of technology life cycles, concepts and practices required to implement effective information systems.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written/listening, presentation) including the ability to communicate with both technical and business colleagues, with good listening skills, clarifying and challenging where required.
  • Experience of using collaborative tools, e.g. JIRA, Confluence, to share and manage requirements to delivery.
  • Must be able to discuss complex issues in a plain and concise manner.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and drives for action and results. Has the ability to cope with pressure and problems.
  • Have a structured and self-disciplined approach to work, effective at managing own time with good planning skills.
  • Willingness to stretch themselves and continually improve their skills and knowledge.
  • Must be a team player, contributing knowledge and expertise to all aspects of work carried out by the department as required to achieve department and corporate objectives. Good at building relationships across the business.
  • Knowledge of potential sources of risk and their impact on project success, combined with good problem solving skills.
  • An ability to identify, analyse and quickly assimilate information is essential. Must be capable of researching complex issues with minimal direction and be able to assist in the production of well-argued recommendations.
  • Continually seeking improvements and encouraging innovation in others while responding positively to change. Helps create an environment where future needs are identified and new ideas encouraged.
  • Keeps up to date with latest development practices, e.g. Test Driven Development and Behavioural Driven Development, Mob programming and supporting technologies, e.g. Gherkin, Cucumber.
