A vacancy has arisen within the Hermes UK Sales Directorate, working in the International Business Team reporting to the Head of International Services. The role of International Sales & Account Manager will be agile with a requirement to work across Hermes sites and with European and Worldwide travel.


Purpose of the Role


We are looking for a sales focused & commercially minded International Sales & Account Manager to retain & develop existing International clients, and make profitable new business wins, The scope of the role is to look at UK, EU and RoW for parcel import and export opportunities.


You will be responsible for achieving challenging sales targets through a driven sales approach, identifying, bidding, negotiating, implementing and contracting International Sales opportunities with the support of an existing internal framework.    You will achieve this by building strong internal networks with the Client Development and New Business teams to identify every cross border opportunity available to the business.


A period of account management for export clients following ‘go-live’ will be required before transitioning the happy client into a dedicated account management team.


They will report directly to the Head of International Services.


  • Deliver parcel volume, profit and retention targets
  • Support and guide the Client Development team in securing new international traffic and contract renewals
  • Be focused on profitability and revenue growth
  • Build successful relationships with prospects and secure deals within the e-commerce, 3PL / Fulfilment, Marketplace, Retail and Catalogue industries
  • Deliver international sales in line with strategy as set by the Head of International Services addressing different geographical sales coverage based on prior client, sector or industry knowledge
  • Build and embed strong client relationships that enables growth in line with the International plan
  • Work closely with Operations, IT and represent International Business where required
  • Ensure clients’ needs are understood and appropriate services and products are being sold
  • Develop, negotiate, present and close new business
  • Develop and maintain a detailed and accurate pipeline of all opportunities          
  • Drive the improvement of the Hermes International Service through the identification and development of new products, services, relationships and sales lanes
  • Support sales campaigns by gathering market and customer information and providing feedback on future trends
  • Work closely with the International Operations Manager and International Business Analyst to ensure the business unit achieves its annual targets


  • A sales focused and commercially minded international sales manager, you must be highly motivated and results driven
  • Proven track record of Account Management
  • Must be articulate and comfortable when dealing with the people at all levels, with much emphasis placed on verbal communication
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
  • International business experience, strongly preferable to be from the parcel, mail or related industries
  • Must have the capability to work on own initiative and be self-motivated, often working some unsociable hours and undertaking extensive travel
  • Ability to demonstrate both a commercial and client focused operating style
  • A detailed, methodical and structured mindset
  • Trustworthy, dependable and with high self-management skills
  • Effective internal and external networking and influencer
  • Highly numerate with a detailed understanding of costings and P&L
  • Excellent relationship management skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with others
  • An understanding of the latest challenges/opportunities for the retail marketplace is desirable
  • Ability to represent Hermes professionally at all times
